Native-Level Performance

We implement performance-critical communication paths natively when latency or throughput requires it, e.g. high-frequency device data, real-time control, or firmware transfer. The rest of the app can remain cross-platform where that is the more efficient choice.

Stability & Reliability

Our QA engineers test the software against the physical hardware as part of the delivery loop, and work with the developers responsible for the integration. It's a detail that surprises clients used to agencies that only test the software side or outsource QA to their partners.

OTA Updates

Some connected products have a ready-made SDK like nRF Connect SDK with built-in update mechanism. Other hardware requires us to implement a vendor-specific or custom DFU protocol in the app. We work with both types of hardware.

Observability

We build device-aware logging and monitoring into the product, helping your team diagnose issues by device, model, application version, and user context. It helps you identify some problems before they become support or warranty cases.

L3 Support for your L2 Support

We're the technical backup behind your support team. When your L2 team runs into something they can't fix, whether it's a connectivity glitch or a hardware quirk, they can ask us to figure it out.

Hardware Experience

We work with manufacturers across different regions, including Asia-based hardware and protocols. Documentation quality varies, but we know how to extract details we need to build premium software for your hardware.

Premium-Level User Experience

The app is a part of how customers perceive your product. Our client recently said that they sell premium equipment, and the companion app has to support this claim. Otherwise, it undercuts the promise they make to their customers.

When You Should Choose Stormotion

1

When you're launching a new connected product

You have new hardware ready for market, and you need the companion app for it. Skip the app, and even good hardware will become incomplete.

2

When your existing software isn't good enough

When your current OEM or white-label application cannot provide the performance, stability, or brand experience your hardware requires, we replace it with software built around your specific devices and protocols.

3

When you're adding new models to your hardware line

You're expanding your model line and need one app that handles all of them without users noticing a difference. We solved this for the client who has several e-scooter models with different protocols behind a single companion app.

4

When your product needs better stability or user experience

Your BLE connection drops, sync fails, or OTA doesn't work, and you see it in your ratings and returns. We test against your actual hardware before anything ships, and help isolate whether the issue originates in the protocol, application architecture, firmware interaction, or device-specific behaviour.

Testimonials

Jakob Hals

"Stormotion stood out because of their focus on Bluetooth-connected products. They weren't just app developers, they understood the unique challenges of building mobile app experience for hardware products. Their collaborative approach, technical expertise, and ability to quickly grasp the vision of the North Guardian app made it clear that they were the right fit."

Pauline Gugelot

"Stormotion has really delivered on their promises. They’ve been very transparent about their progress, flexible in reacting to changes, and solution-focused in overcoming challenges. If they didn’t know something, they would find out, which gave us great confidence in their ability to go the extra mile."

Todd Gilligan

"I had meetings with 30 different agencies and the team at Stormotion gave me the most confidence to go forward. With them you feel like you've got a kind, knowledgable & conscientious team behind you. So I was 100% sure that they're going to be able to deliver our project!"

Claudio Tesei

"We originally got in touch with Stormotion from our original app developer. And very soon we found real value in choosing Stormotion, because they previously had real valuable experience on the field – digital apps working in the realm of EV charging. So, it was really a no-brainer for us to to go with them."

Steve Knight

"If you're thinking of going to Stormotion, you're going to have a very easy team to talk to, to communicate with, to understand what you want to do. They will tell you if you're barking up the wrong tree and are going to waste your time and money. I'd say "give it a go!" and I thoroughly recommend Stormotion."

Gregor Herdmann

"Working with Stormotion was a blast! The Project Managers, and especially Alex, are always there for you when you need them to go the extra mile. And it's very easy to communicate with them. Whether it's something urgent or whether it's a bigger task, like building the structure of the architecture, I always felt like I was treated very well. Stormotion delivered a great app experience from day one."

Szymon Sołtysiak

"Trust Stormotion. Work with them on your road map, on your technical debt. Also, expect feedback because the team is eager to do this. It's what I value and, I think, many startups value."

Max Sheidlock

"Given a tough budget and a lack of knowledge in our own engineering team, we quickly came to Stormotion. We had already worked together on previous projects, and I knew that, based on React Native, we could have one engineer responsible for it. That was just amazing because I could really focus on our customer side, knowing that the mobile application for the testers was in very good hands."

Tino Marx

"I highly recommend Stormotion as a service provider for app development. They're young, flexible, dynamic, creative and very fast. The cost of planning and implementation is also reasonable. As they use "pay as you go", have a good plan first – then the result also will be satisfactory."

Pietro Saccomani

"The Stormotion team quickly became our team for everything Native app-related. It would be hard to name all the things that we built over the many years we worked together, but overall, I think we had a good partner who was able to adapt the way we worked, and the way they worked. So that we could ultimately build a product that had the quality that we wanted and with the speed that we wanted."

How We Work With Connected Product Teams

We take all product delivery responsibility and offer you a full-cycle team (full-time engineers and part-time UI/UX designer, QA, and PM).

You need this if:

  • You're launching a new connected app and want one team accountable for the build
  • You're rebuilding a legacy app or modernizing an existing product
  • You have a specific product stream, module, or domain that needs its own dedicated team

How We Start Our Partnership

use arrows below to SHUFFLE THROUGH THE SLIDER

  • 1. You come with a product challenge

It can be a rebuild, an overloaded team, a new app, a legacy codebase, a roadmap you're trying to hit, or a specific technical problem. For connected products, that's usually tied to the hardware itself: a device that needs its first app, an OEM app that's hurting the brand, or a BLE connection that's never worked right.

  • 2. We understand the product context

We review the domain, users, roadmap, current team, technical constraints, and business priorities. It also includes the protocol you're working with (BLE, Zigbee, Matter, Thread), the device or devices involved, and any existing firmware or hardware documentation.

  • 3. We suggest the right cooperation setup

This may be one engineer, a small team, or a full-cycle dev unit. The right size depends on what you already have in place, whether you have Product Owner and team who just need protocol expertise added, or a gap that needs a full team to take responsibility from discovery through release.

  • 4. We start delivering sprint by sprint

The team works through the roadmap, integrates with your process, and can expand based on your priorities. We test on your real hardware from the first sprint, so we fix connection and stability problems early.

  • 5. We stay long enough to create momentum

Our partnerships with clients usually run for years. New firmware versions, new device models, and OTA updates keep coming after the first release. And it's better to have the same team on it year after year, so you don't have to spend time and resources to onboard new contractors.

FAQ

What types of connected hardware do you build apps for?

We build companion apps for connected fitness equipment, batteries and energy systems, e-mobility devices, smart home hardware, industrial sensors, and Android kiosks and terminals. If your product connects to an app over BLE, Zigbee, Matter, or a wired protocol, we can help you build a companion app for it.

Do you work with hardware that doesn't have an app yet?

Yes. This is one of the most common ways clients come to us, a device is ready or close to ready, and the companion app needs to be built from scratch, connectivity layer included.

Can you replace our existing OEM or white-label app?

Yes. Replacing generic OEM software with a custom app built specifically around your hardware is one of our core use cases, especially when the existing software is holding back the brand or the user experience.

What protocols do you have experience with?

We work with BLE, Zigbee, Matter, Thread, and wired protocols like USB and Serial, depending on the hardware. Some projects use standard SDKs like Nordic Connect; others require custom protocols we build from scratch.

How do you handle firmware updates for BLE devices?

If the hardware provides a standard DFU mechanism, such as one based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF Connect ecosystem, we integrate it. Otherwise, we implement the vendor-specific firmware-transfer protocol in the app, including chunking, acknowledgements, retries, and recovery behaviour.

How do you update software on standalone Android devices?

For standalone Android consoles or terminals that are not distributed through Google Play, we can build a custom application-distribution and update mechanism.

Do you test against our actual hardware, or just in a simulator?

We test against your real hardware. Our QA process is built around physical devices, not just the software layer, which is part of how we catch connection and stability issues before they reach your users.

What team structures do you offer?

We use several setups depending on your existing team and the responsibility you want us to take. If you have product leadership in place and just need specialized execution capacity, one dedicated engineer can join your internal team.

If your roadmap needs steady, ongoing progress, a standalone team of two engineers plus QA and PM support can take on continuous delivery. And if you need a full team to own an entire product stream, like a rebuild, modernization, or a specific app module, we take on that as a dedicated, full-cycle team.

Do you support multiple hardware models under one app?

Yes. We've built apps that support several hardware variants, sometimes on different protocols, behind a single consistent app experience, so users don't see a difference between models.

What kind of clients are you the right fit for?

We do our best work with funded teams that have a clear decision-maker involved and are open to shaping the scope as discovery uncovers more about the product. We're generally not the right fit for very early, pre-funding solo projects, or for fixed-scope, tightly-dated builds with a lot of unknowns still unresolved, since those tend to need more flexibility than a locked scope allows. If that's where you're at, we're still happy to talk, we may just point you toward a different approach or timeline.

Do you help with discovery before committing to a full build?

Yes. Every engagement starts with understanding the product context, domain, users, roadmap, current team, and technical constraints, before we propose a team structure or scope.
